NBA props for Tuesday 4/16: We like some treys from Trey

Tonight we have the first of a few nights of NBA play-in action. I am not sure I like the concept overall, but there is nothing better than a single-game elimination for real drama. When there is no tomorrow, the concept of load management is out the window, too.

This evening we have the Lakers at the Pelicans and Golden State at Sacramento, so there is more than enough star power to go around too. When it comes to the playoffs you really want to find those props that match the game scripts you think most are most likely. Sure, player props can cash regardless of which side wins and loses, but you want to lean into your theses.

NBA Props for Tuesday, April 16

Anthony Davis Over 25.5 Points (+102)
Lakers vs. Pelicans, 7:30 p.m. ET

The Pelicans may be hosting tonight, but I like the Lakers to win. I don't see the home environment offering an advantage and with AD and LeBron, they are not going to be off their game because of it. These teams closed the season against each other with Davis scoring 30 points. In other games against New Orleans, he was not as productive this season, but the matchup vs. Jonas Valanciunas has proven to be a favorable one. Only once in the last two seasons has he been under 20 points, which is a nice floor.

D'Angelo Russell More Assists than Zion Williamson (+114)
Lakers vs. Pelicans, 7:30 p.m. ET

I was surprised that Williamson was the favorite for this one given he averaged an assist fewer per game during the regular season. Russell has been so much better for L.A. over the last couple of months too and is not going to be shy about this game. This is going to be Williamson's first NBA playoff game and I think it might show. The Lakers have a lot of athletic bigs that are going to make it very tough for him tonight.

Trey Lyles Over 1.5 Three Pointers (+160)
Warriors vs. Kings, 10 p.m. ET

The payoff on this one is wonderful and not as much of a stretch as you think. Lyles had his second-best shooting season this year, making over 38% of his threes, and down the stretch he made at least one in nine straight games, and in four of those he made two or more. I am looking to back the Kings tonight and for them to win they have to get some production from their reserves. He made nine threes in the seven-game series between these teams a year ago. That included two in the series home opener, like this one.

Davion Mitchell Over 2.5 Rebounds (+135)
Warriors vs. Kings, 10 p.m. ET

If the Kings are going to win they have to find a way to contain Warriors leading scorer Steph Curry. Davion Mitchell kind of fell out of favor in Sacramento this season, but with limited options available to coach Mike Brown, he has been more present of late. In eight April games, he has been over 24 mpg and averaged exactly 2.5 rpg. As long as the defense is there we can count on that production. His rebound prop has a great payoff.
