Former Nerazzurri President Massimo Moratti has little time for suggestions that Inter Milan don’t “really” have twenty titles due to Calciopoli.

Moratti rubbished the notion in an interview with Italian broadcaster Radio Radio, via FCInter1908.

Last week, Inter confirmed their status as champions of the 2023-24 season.

The Nerazzurri’s victory in the derby against AC Milan means that no team can catch them in the table, mathematically speaking.

And it was a special Scudetto for Inter. The Nerazzurri have now won twenty in their history.

However, there has been some controversy around one title in particular.

That would be the Serie A title for the 2005-06 season.

That was the season of the infamous Calciopoli scandal.

During the campaign, it had actually been Juventus who amassed the most points. However, the Bianconeri were stripped of their title and relegated to Serie B after revelations of serious corruption.

Moratti Rubbishes Inter Calciopoli Talk: “Teams Ahead Of Us Cheated”

The 2005-06 title was awarded to Inter after all the dust settled with points deductions at the end of the Calciopoli investigation.

However, there has long been a fair bit of bitterness surrounding the circumstances of this title.

Therefore, there has been some talk to try and diminish Inter’s second star.

With title number twenty, the Nerazzurri can sew a second star onto their shirts. But for some, they really only have nineteen titles – given the manner in which the 2005-06 Scudetto was awarded.

But former Nerazzurri President Moratti dismissed this notion completely.

“I don’t agree with that,” he said of the notion that Inter “really” only have nineteen titles. “Twenty is twenty.”

“The teams ahead of us had cheated,” the Inter President argued.

“I don’t see why we have to have this mentality that rewards chicanery,” Moratti said.

Meanwhile, the former President also praised current Inter President Steven Zhang.

“He did what he needed to in the difficulties that he found himself in,” he said of the current President.

“Zhang’s Inter deserve all the credit.”
